I have a mutual fund with an investment company that has recently settled in a class action lawsuit of which I was completely unaware.
I am entitled to the whopping sum of $20.22.
Credit vouchers are being issued. Three yearly vouchers of just under $7.00 each!
So I don't really get to see this windfall. I get to apply it to fees I would be charged by the investment company. And again, I can't apply it all at once. I can only use one voucher per year for the next 3 years. $6.74 for the first two years, and $6.75 the last.
The time it would take me to call and figure out how to have the credit applied is worth more to me than $6.74.
But at least the attorneys are richer.
God Bless America.

It's the Bible, you idiot
So, not only are we supposed to accept homosexuality as being a perfectly normal way of life (no, it isn't), now we need to change what the Bible says, too???
CASCADE TOWNSHIP -- A Canton man is suing Zondervan Publishing and a Tennessee-based publisher, claiming their versions of the Bible that refer to homosexuality as a sin violate his constitutional rights and have caused him emotional pain and mental instability. (Oh, BOO HOO!)
Bradley LaShawn Fowler, 39, is seeking $60 million from Zondervan, based in Cascade Township, and $10 million from Thomas Nelson Publishing in the lawsuits filed in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan.
Fowler filed the suit against Zondervan on Monday, the same day U.S. District Judge Julian Abele Cook Jr. refused to appoint an attorney to represent him in his case against Thomas Nelson, a Tennessee publisher.
Fowler filed a suit against Thomas Nelson in June. He is representing himself in both claims.
"The Court has some very genuine concerns about the nature and efficacy of these claims," the judge wrote.
Fowler alleges Zondervan's Bibles referring to homosexuality as a sin have made him an outcast from his family and contributed to physical discomfort and periods of "demoralization, chaos and bewilderment."
The intent of the publisher was to design a religious, sacred document to reflect an individual opinion or a group's conclusion to cause "me or anyone who is a homosexual to endure verbal abuse, discrimination, episodes of hate, and physical violence ... including murder," Fowler wrote. (STFU!)
Fowler's suit claims Zondervan's text revisions from a 1980s version of the Bible include, and then delete the reference to homosexuality without informing the public of the changes.
The other suit, against Thomas Nelson and its New King James Bible, mirrors the allegations made against Zondervan.

Brush with greatness
I had dinner with Jon Gruden tonight.
Not really.
He was sitting at the table next to us. I'm not very observant, and wouldn't have even noticed if my husband hadn't pointed him out.
I wanted his picture, but I didn't want to bother him, as he was eating with his wife and kids and probably gets tired of being harassed. But my sister-in-law didn't care. She just turned around and started having a conversation with him. Then she asked if we could take his picture.
He asked if he could go to the restroom and walk his family out first. I was sure he was just trying to get away from us, and wouldn't be back. But he came back a few minutes later.
The quality of the picture is not very good, as it was taken with a cell phone. Not to mention she got more of me than him in the picture.
What a nice guy for putting up with us during a family dinner, without acting the least bit annoyed.

In limbo
We made an offer on another townhouse in the same complex that we are in. Since it's another pre-foreclosure, it's going to take a while, which is actually good for us not only because we need to get out of our busy season first, but because we just moved and I'm really not in the mood to move again. As a matter of fact, we aren't really finished moving yet. I'm still doing it all by myself, which means that about 1/2 a truckload gets moved per day.
Our tentative closing date on the townhouse is not until November. So I have about 5 months to stress about moving........again. :(
We also got a call from the other realtor we were dealing with. The homeowners of the other house we made the offer on have figured out a way they might be able to make it work. The reason our offer was not accepted is because the second mortgage company was going to get nothing, and they said "no way". I have no idea how the homeowners think they're going to get around that, but obviously they haven't had any better offers and are desperate to sell the house.
So, we still have no idea where we are going to be living by the end of the year. I'm just trying not to think about it.
Although I love where we live now, as it's on the water in a great neighborhood, and the townhouses are very big and very nice, I did find one thing I don't like. I don't like sharing a pool with other people. Not because the people aren't friendly. They are very friendly. It's me who's not friendly.
On the other hand, Captain Chaos met a kid his age at the pool the other day. He played with him for over an hour. He's obviously more friendly than I am.
